Fantastic academic work

Not particularly surprised that I'm the first to review this book =), since this is sort of a fringe field, but I'm in the midst of research right now on a fiction project that centers around the jester as a central character and I've been drawing in material from all over the map. This is one of the best books I've found - it's one of those wonderful, in-depth, non-dry/debilitatingly boring academic studies of the jester as a character in history and literature. Those of you who are interested in the subject and who know the difference between dynamic, engaged academic writing and deathly dull I'm-writing-this-because-it's-my-field writing will want to pick up this book.

George Hurrell (1904–1992) was the creator of the Hollywood glamour portrait. About the Author
Mark A. Vieira is a writer, historian, and photographer with over forty years of experience working in Hollywood. He makes portraits using the George Hurrell technique. Mark has lectured at USC, UCLA, Lincoln Center, Universal Studios, the Hollywood Heritage Museum, and the Palm Springs Film Festival. He has appeared in documentaries such as TCM’s Moguls and Movie Stars and Playboy’s Sex at 24 Frames Per Second. Mark is also the author of several books, including The Making of Some Like It Hot (with Tony Curtis), Greta Garbo: A Cinematic Legacy, and Sin in Soft Focus: Pre-Code Hollywood.

Fantastic book for cheap on Amazon, and while I haven't read through it, the story bits I did read are wonderful insight. I mainly bought it to learn about Hurrell's technique and look at the photos to get an education on lighting.

Stupendous!!!

This coffee-table size book contains some of the most beautiful photographs of Hollywood stars I have ever seen. The photos were taken by famed Hollywood photographer George Hurrell. The book is also a biography of Hurrell. The photos are beautifully reproduced and the story of Hurrell is quite interesting. He went back and forth from being an independent photographer to the various studios including MGM, Fox, Warners, and Columbia. However, all he really wanted to be was a painter. The book contains photos from silent star Ramon Novarro through Paul McCartney and Sharon Stone. There are a great number of photos of Joan Crawford and Norma Shearer (Hurrell’s most frequent clients) and a few of the great male stars including Gable, Flynn, Stewart, Cagney, and Bogart. Highly recommended for anyone who values the artistry of portrait photography and loves the age of classic films and the era when stars were really stars.

About the Author

Ruchika Malhotra is an assistant professor in the Department of Software Engineering at Delhi Technological University (formerly Delhi College of Engineering). She was awarded the prestigious UGC Raman Fellowship for pursuing post-doctoral research in the Department of Computer and Information Science at Indiana University–Purdue University. She received her master’s and doctorate degrees in software engineering from the University School of Information Technology of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. She received the IBM Best Faculty Award in 2013 and has published more than 100 research papers in international journals and conferences. Her research interests include software testing, improving software quality, statistical and adaptive prediction models, software metrics, neural nets modeling, and the definition and validation of software metrics.

Wow Loved every word of this book

I read this book in less then a week I am a huge fan of TOWIE so this book was giving me the perfect insight to real "world" of essex. This book explained what goes down in essex the whole truth and I cant wait to read the next book by this fabulous author I would recommend this book to anyone that loves TOWIE and wants to get to know deeper of what is going on in the famous town I have grown to love Essex.

Brilliant Tour De Force on Leadership

I use Level Three Leadership when I teach in a university master's program in organizational leadership. (I supplement it with Annie McKee's and Richard Boyatzis' Becoming a Resonant Leader.) Students like the book, particular more experienced, mid-level corporate and healthcare leaders. I just love it! It's a brilliant tour de force about the nature of leadership, how to be a leader, how to influence others in an ethical way. Despite not being a mental health professional himself, Clawson is able to explain the psychological underpinnings of leadership and convey it in a way others can understand. His is a unique model of leadership. And he's able to tie it all in with newer theory and practice around employee engagement and moving organizations from (what I think about as) command-and-control structures to collaborative-and-cooperative ones. I remember reading Level Three Leadership for the first time during a summer vacation a couple of years ago. I kept getting up (and annoying my wife) regularly with comments about how much the book was in sync with and expanded my own thinking about organizations and leadership. I continue to be excited about the book and engaging my students around its principles.

Does not load on Kindle Paperwhite!

I'm sorry, but really!?"""

Above was my initial review, and while it's true that the inability to load the digital book on my Kindle, and the lack of clear messaging for new Kindle users that this book will not load on their device is a detriment, I felt that it was only fair to add my opinion of the teachings within the book, and have adjusted my rating from a 1 to a 4 because I really liked what I learned from the book.

I purchased "Level Three Leadership" for an upper-level undergraduate management class, a class that is mostly online and self-directed. Having never taken a management course before, I found the information presented there-in to be both valuable and useful. There is much information about management styles and models, and about the changing face of leadership in the modern age. I have changed my rating because:
- I learned a lot from this book about management.
- I learned a lot from this book that translates into other areas of my life as well.
- I was fond of the accuracy of the wording that the author used to convey his meaning. He was very accurate and eloquent unto the point that I was often unable to transpose his words in my notes without changing the meaning, which is a level of specificity that I like to see in a good textbook.

This is a book on leadership but seems to just borrow leadership ideas from others. Nothing really new in the book. The author draws some simplistic diagrams that do not really do much to add to the concepts of leadership. This text was required for the master's class I am taking but there are bobetter texts that could have been used. Don't expect anything new or exciting out the book. I was reading an article about Chik-fil-A's development of a leadership program. In the article, Mark Miller, VP for Training and Development, mentioned that the Chik-fil-A staff working on the leadership development program read approximately 200 books on leadership. This would not have been one of the ones I would have recommended for that list.

This book does exactly what it claims. It walks you through the King's Quest series step by step ensuring you get maximum gaming from the series. It also adds a story version to each setup. If you want the fast way to solve the series, I'd definately buy this book.

What a great book. I bought it for the maps and hints. The stories for each game, told from the characters point of views, were fun to read. I'll definitely keep an eye out for more books by this author.

Amazon Should Be Ashamed For Incorrect Product Info!

I just received this book,after ordering it here because I just ordered The King's Quest Collection for XP.
This is what Amazon says.(I ordered the third Edition,which is the one shown in the picture.)

"By the standards of computer game books, this is a staggering tome. That it covers the solutions to all seven King's Quest games doesn't account for its length and richness--not even when you take into account that it leads to multiple solutions of many problems. This is more than just a computer game solution book: it's a fantasy novel in its own right. In The King's Quest Companion we often follow the narrative stories of the King's Quest characters, seeing their world through their eyes, hearing their voices and thoughts, seeing them not as on-screen game pieces but as fully developed characters. That might even be too mild a description, because Spear insists throughout that the world of Daventry is "real" and that these stories all really happened. Certainly, the characters have become real for the devoted players who've followed their exploits since the first King's Quest changed the face of computer gaming in 1984. Spear's strategy guide offers solutions to the puzzles that have driven players to distraction for years, but more than that, he adds new depth to the King's Quest experience."

This book is only 482 pages not over 600 as they claim,and it absolutely DOES NOT cover KQ7!

I think such false advertising is inexcusable!
