Reverence: A Significance Series Novella, by Shelly Crane

A short, THREE CHAPTERS from Caleb's point of view from each of the first three books in the series given as a Thank You to fans. It is not necessary to read to continue on with the series. It also includes the first two chapters and a sneak peak of the last book, Independence, which has already released. THIS IS NOT A BOOK. I fell in love with her a little bit right there on the lawn. Right there on Uncle Max's ridiculously manicured lawn, I knew that my life was over and a new life was beginning. One where the girl in my arms was all mine, in every way, and I waited patiently at her feet for a chance to do anything she asked of me.

Very, very short for the price
By Becka
Normally I get a little irritated when reviewers waste time on the price versus size of the book. The description does include that you're purchasing a novella, after all. This was short, even by a novella's standards... and the price was $3.99. I know the author has nothing to do with this, but the publishers should really reevaluate charging so much money for almost paper-thin books.

I absolutely love the series and cannot wait for Independence to come out on Dec.18th!! There just really was not any substance to this book. Reading the book from Caleb's perspective was fun, but there really wasn't anything interesting about it. You also really need to read all three books (Significance, Accordance, and Defiance) in this series to understand where Caleb is coming from. The book gives you teasers of a couple/few scenes from Caleb's perspective in each book.

Great series, Shelly!

Too short, and just not sweet enough for a stellar review
By Amazon Customer
I really enjoy the significance series and I was really excited to read from Caleb's perspective. But honestly I didn't think that I learned anything interesting about him or what he was thinking. It was pretty shallow, and no mysteries were solved, not that there were any to begin with. I thought Midnight Sun was done far better, as I actually learned some new things about the main character and understood Edward and like him more because of it (yes I read it, sue me!). I didn't really learn anything new about Caleb, he pretty much thinks the same way as Maggie. The biggest thing that irked me is that the book was SUPER SUPER SHORT! I can't believe they charged for this! I am pretty mad that I spent a dollar on it to be honest. It was like reading an essay, a short story, not a novella, and it certainly didn't earn the money I spent. Don't waste your time. Caleb thinks Maggie is the most wonderful, special, beautiful, sexy, funny, freckly, amazing woman in the whole world and he can't believe that he is so lucky. THE END!

Gender Pluralism: Southeast Asia Since Early Modern Times, by Michael G. Peletz

Choice Outstanding Academic Title 2009!

This book examines three big ideas: difference, legitimacy, and pluralism.Of chief concern is how people construe and deal with variation among fellow human beings. Why under certain circumstances do people embrace even sanctify differences, or at least begrudgingly tolerate them, and why in other contexts are people less receptive to difference, sometimes overtly hostile to it and bent on its eradication? What are the cultural and political conditions conducive to the positive valorization and acceptance of difference? And, conversely, what conditions undermine or erode such positive views and acceptance? This book examines pluralism in gendered fields and domains in Southeast Asia since the early modern era, which historians and anthropologists of the region commonly define as the period extending roughly from thefifteenth to theeighteenth centuries.

Letters from a Stoic, by Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Continue to act thus, my dear Lucilius – set yourself free for your own sake; gather and save your time, which till lately has been forced from you, or filched away, or has merely slipped from your hands. Make yourself believe the truth of my words, – that certain moments are torn from us, that some are gently removed, and that others glide beyond our reach. The most disgraceful kind of loss, however, is that due to carelessness. Furthermore, if you will pay close heed to the problem, you will find that the largest portion of our life passes while we are doing ill, a goodly share while we are doing nothing, and the whole while we are doing that which is not to the purpose. What man can you show me who places any value on his time, who reckons the worth of each day, who understands that he is dying daily? For we are mistaken when we look forward to death; the major portion of death has already passed. Whatever years be behind us are in death's hands. Therefore, Lucilius, do as you write me that you are doing: hold every hour in your grasp. Lay hold of to-day's task, and you will not need to depend so much upon to-morrow's. While we are postponing, life speeds by. Nothing, Lucilius, is ours, except time. We were entrusted by nature with the ownership of this single thing, so fleeting and slippery that anyone who will can oust us from possession. What fools these mortals be! They allow the cheapest and most useless things, which can easily be replaced, to be charged in the reckoning, after they have acquired them; but they never regard themselves as in debt when they have received some of that precious commodity, – time! And yet time is the one loan which even a grateful recipient cannot repay.

About the Author
Lucius Annaeus Seneca, statesman, philosopher, advocate and man of letters, was born at Cordoba in Spain around 4 BCE. He rose to prominence in Rome, pursuing a career in the courts and political life, for which he had been trained, while also acquiring celebrity as an author of tragedies and essays. Falling foul of successive emperors (Caligula in 39 CE and Claudius in 41 CE), he spent eight years in exile, allegedly for an affair with Caligula’s sister. Recalled in 49 CE, he was made praetor and was appointed tutor to the boy who was to become, in 54 CE, the emperor Nero. On Nero’s succession, Seneca acted for some eight years as an unofficial chief minister. The early part of this reign was remembered as a period of sound government, for which the main credit seems due to Seneca. His control over Nero declined as enemies turned the emperor against him with representations that his popularity made him a danger, or with accusations of immorality or excessive wealth. Retiring from public life he devoted his last three years to philosophy and writing, particularly the Letters to Lucilius. In 65 CE following the discovery of a plot against the emperor, in which he was thought to be implicated, he and many others were compelled by Nero to commit suicide. His fame as an essayist and dramatist lasted until two or three centuries ago, when he passed into literary oblivion, from which the twentieth century has seen a considerable and immensely valuable recovery.

So it was to my great delight that I stumbled on Seneca's "Letters From a ...
By Django Rienhardt
As I progress on my quest for wisdom from the classical periods I recently read Cicero's "Selected Works" and Lurcreius' "On the Nature of Things" both of which I thought lacked in any deep knowledge and found them both to be greatly disappointing. So it was to my great delight that I stumbled on Seneca's "Letters From a Stoic" which I highly recommend. Some of my favorite passages loosely organized around a theme are as follows:

On One's Relationship to the Material World:
*It is not the man who has too little who is poor, but the one who hankers after more.
*You ask what is the proper limit to a person's wealth? First, having what is essential, and second having what is enough.
*Although the wise man does not hanker after what he has lost, he does prefer not lose them.
*The qualities of a just, a good and an enlightened character does not regard as valuable anything that can be taken away.
*I am not against possessing riches but I want to ensure that you possess them without tremors.

On One's Relationship to Society:
*Inwardly everything should be different but our outward face should conform to the crowd.
*The road is long if one poceeds by way of precepts but short and effectual if by way of personal example.
*You ask me to say what you should consider it particularly important to avoid. My answer is this: a mass crowd.
*Associating with people in large numbers is actually harmful.
*Retire into yourself as much as you can. Associate with people who are likely to improve you.
*Avoid whatever is approved of by the mob.
*If you shape your life according to nature, you will never be poor; if according to people's opinions you will never be rich.

On One's Relationship to the Body:
*Pick (any exercise) for ease and straightforwardness...but whatever you do, return from body to mind very soon.
*Where you arrive does not matter so much as what sort of person you are when you arrive there.
*A way of speaking which is restrained, not bold, suits a wise man in the same way as an unassuming sort of walk does.
*Refusal to be influenced by one's body assure one's freedom.
*People who know no self-restraint lead stormy and disordered lives.

On Death:
*Every day, therefore, should be regulated as if it were the one that brings up the rear, the one that rounds out and completes our lives.
*If God adds the morrow we should accept it joyfully.
*The man you should admire and imitate is the one who finds it a joy to live and in spite of that is not reluctant to die.
*You will go the way that all things go...This is the law to which you were born.
*You will die not because you are sick but because you are alive...In getting well again you may be escaping some ill health but not death.
*We are born unequal, we die equal.

On the Value of Philosophy/Stoicism:
*It molds and builds the personality, orders one's life, regulates one's conduct, shows one what one should do and what should leave undone, sits at the helm and keeps one on the course as one is tossed about in perilous seas.
*Only philosophy will wake us; only philosophy will shake us out of that heavy sleep. Devote yourself entirely to her.
*For the only safe harbor in this life's tossing, troubled sea is to refuse to be bothered about what the future will bring and to stand ready and confident, squaring the breast to take without skulking or flinching whatever fortune hurls at us.
*It is in not man's power to have whatever he wants; but he has it in his power not to wish for what he hasn't got.
*Part of the blame lies on the teachers of philosophy, who today teach us how to argue instead of how to live...The result has been the transformation of philosophy, the study of wisdom, into philology, the study of words.
*No man is good by accident, virtue has to be learned.

By the way, before renouncing all worldly possessions keep in mind that Seneca did not practice what he preached, was intimately attached to the material world, and readers interested in an excellent biography of Seneca's life and role during Nero's reign should consider reading James Romm's "Dying Every Day: Seneca at the Court of Nero."

"It is not the man who has too little who is poor, but the one who hankers after more
By Glenn Russell
These letters of Roman philosopher Seneca are a treasure chest for anybody wishing to incorporate philosophic wisdom into their day-to-day living. By way of example, below are a few Seneca gems along with my brief comments:

"Each day acquire something which will help you to face poverty, or death, and other ills as well. After running over a lot of different thoughts, pick out one to be digested throughout the day." --------- I'm completely with Seneca on this point. I approach the study of philosophy primarily for self-transformation. There is no let-up in the various challenges life throws at us - what we can change is the level of wisdom we bring to facing our challenges.

"It is not the man who has too little who is poor, but the one who hankers after more." ---------- This is the perennial philosophy from Aristotle to Epicurus to Epictetus to Buddha: we have to face up to our predicament as humans; we are in the realm of desire. The goal of living as a philosopher is to deal with our desires in such a way that we can maintain our tranquility and joy.

"But if you are looking on anyone as a friend when you do not trust him (or her) as you trust yourself, you are making a grave mistake, and have failed to grasp sufficiently the full force of true friendship." --------- Friendship was one key idea in the ancient world that modern philosophy seems to have forgotten. Seneca outlines how we must first test and judge people we consider as possible friends, but once we become friends with someone, then an abiding and complete trust is required.

"The very name of philosophy however modest the manner in which it is pursued, is unpopular enough as it is: imagine what the reaction would be if we started dissociating ourselves from the conventions of society. Inwardly everything should be different but our outward face should conform with the crowd. Our clothes should not be gaudy, yet they should now be dowdy either. . . . Let our aim be a way of life not diametrically opposed to, but better than that of the mob.". ---------- The call of true philosophy isn't an outward display but an internal attitude. There is a long, noble tradition of living the life of a philosopher going back to ancient Greece and Rome, that has, unfortunately, been mostly lost to us in the West. It is time to reclaim our true heritage.

"You may be banished to the end of the earth, and yet in whatever outlandish corner of the world you may find yourself stationed, you will find that place, whatever it may be like, a hospitable home. Where you arrive does not matter so much as what sort of person you are when you arrive there." -------- This is the ultimate Stoic worldview: our strength of character is more important that the particular life situation we find ourselves in. Very applicable in our modern world; although, chances are we will not be banished to another country, many of us will one day be banished to a nursing home.

"This rapidity of utterance recalls a person running down a slope and unable to stop where he meant to, being carried on instead a lot farther than he intended, at the mercy of his body's momentum; it is out of control, and unbecoming to philosophy, which should be placing her words, not throwing them around." --------- The ancient world had many people who talked a mile a minute, an unending gush of chatter. The Greco-Roman philosophers such as Seneca and Plutarch warn against garrulousness. Rather, we should mark our words well. From my own experience, when I hear long-winded pontifications, I feel like running away.

"The next thing I knew the book itself had charmed me into a deeper reading of it there and then. . . . It was so enjoyable that I found myself held and drawn on until I ended up having read it right through to the end without a break. All the time the sunshine was inviting me out, hunger prompting me to eat, the weather threatening to break, but I gulped it all down in one sitting." --------- Ah, the experience of being pulled into a good book! When we come upon such a book, go with it!

The intellectual road to happiness
By Abi Noda
*Letters from a Stoic* is a first-person look at how an experienced Stoic applies philosophy to ordinary life and the world around him. From it you not only learn the core tenets of Stoicism, but get to witness the intellectual practice of someone who's wholly devoted to cultivating his mind, mastering philosophy, and achieving long-lasting happiness.

I've dabbled with philosophical texts before but have never felt like I've understood how philosophy is meant to be applied in every day life, or to what end. Unlike other texts I've read, *Letters from a Stoic* firmly grounds you in the root purpose of philosophy. In fact there were few themes throughout the book as recurrent as Seneca's view on the importance of philosophy, like in the following passage:

> Philosophy moulds and builds the personality, orders one's life, regulates one's conduct, shows one what one should do and what one should leave undone, sits at the helm and keeps one on the correct course as one is tossed about in perilous seas. Without it no one can lead a life free of free or worry. Every house of the day countless situations arise that call for advice, and for that advice we have to look to philosophy.

Seneca expresses dismay toward people who entertain or attempt to inspire themselves with philosophy but not actually study or practice it. Seneca also openly detests Epicureans, seeing them as pursuing a depraved form of happiness.

Consistent with Stoic tenets, Seneca preaches of avoiding vices and excess (he even discourages reading an abundant quantity of books). He especially warns of "the crowd", which he sees as the ultimate discourager of noble conduct. Seneca sees the ideal disposition as quiet, noble, and intellectual. Happiness is achieved not though anything external or material, but by devoted practice of philosophy and avoidance of all things that tempt or derail us from a cultivated disposition.

By Fractal Cat
i ordered this because it is a favorite book of a friend of mine. apparently, ellen white covers so many topics in it, for instance, how people should interact with each other within a congregation when one of the members is doing something inappropriate. my girlfriend seems to think that ellen white hit the nail on the head and gives very good advice. i ordered the book for myself to use as a reference, and haven't used it yet to have an opinion of my own to share.

An Amazing Book that leaves you hungry for more!!
By JAZZY
This is the fourth book in the Steel brothers series. After reading about Talon and Jade, I wondered what would come next. Melt continues to show how what had happened to Talon shaped Jonah's future as well. Jonah, still struggling with what happened years ago decides to seek help.

Meeting Dr. Melanie Carmichael as a patient causes him to start facing his inner demons but she has to face some of her own. It is evident from the first meeting they are drawn towards each other. Is the passion they share together ever going to be enough to overcome their own personal demons?

The love scenes in this book will make you melt. The book is fast paced and filled with emotion. You will not want to put it down until you have finished. Helen Hardt has again written an outstanding novel. I look forward to reading more.

Great read but...
By Amazon Customer
While I've read books 1 through 4, I didn't decide to write a review until completing number 4. The books are well written, characters are developed nicely and the story line is interesting although disturbing. I read all 4 in about 3 days. Which brings me to my next point...I think I am tired of books with cliffhangers forcing me to pay and pay and pay. These four books could easily have been two very excellent book including what is obviously coming in book number five. This is the first time I've read books from this author and I must say she writes well enough to make you feel a part of the story but I'm probably won't be reading any others. My dollars are just as important as my enjoyment of the written word. If you're already a fan, I know you'll continue to enjoy her books but for me, there are great authors out there who are willing to write a complete story without breaking it up into as many pieces as they can for a few extra bucks! I willing to look for them!

The Steele Brothers... yes, they are worth your reading time.
By L. A. Cooper
The Steele Brothers from book one until now have grabbed my attention in more ways than one. From horrific events, riviting revelations, and steamy connections... there is no way to help being drawn into their story as you try to grasp how their lives have come to this point, or more importantly how they will overcome it.

Melt takes Jonah Steele on his own journey in the saga. The connection he and Melanie have is undeniable but it is also emotionally burdened by their pasts. I loved reading their beginning but where the book ends, it is clear their story will continue.

As an avid and critical reader, it is rare I write reviews but this book, and the continuation of the Steele Brothers saga is note worthy. It is definitely necessary to read the books in order as the saga is chronological as events unfold and the characters are built. There are very few editing mistakes and the reading is smooth. There is a chapter character division on POV which is well done and doesn't disrupt the story as a whole. Descriptions are specific and are not over done or overemphasized. The sexual descriptive repetition is very limited which keeps the scenes from feeling mundane or just repeated. The Steele Brothers are worth your reading time.

Vietnam 1945: The Quest for Power (Philip E. Lilienthal Book), by David G. Marr

1945: the most significant year in the modern history of Vietnam. One thousand years of dynastic politics and monarchist ideology came to an end. Eight decades of French rule lay shattered. Five years of Japanese military occupation ceased. Allied leaders determined that Chinese troops in the north of Indochina and British troops in the South would receive the Japanese surrender. Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, with himself as president.

Drawing on extensive archival research, interviews, and an examination of published memoirs and documents, David G. Marr has written a richly detailed and descriptive analysis of this crucial moment in Vietnamese history. He shows how Vietnam became a vortex of intense international and domestic competition for power, and how actions in Washington and Paris, as well as Saigon, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh's mountain headquarters, interacted and clashed, often with surprising results. Marr's book probes the ways in which war and revolution sustain each other, tracing a process that will interest political scientists and sociologists as well as historians and Southeast Asia specialists.

excellent background -- if one can bear it!
By A Customer
The title of this book is misleading. Marr's topic is not 1945 alone but the period beginning in 1940, when the Germans conquered France and the colonial adminisrators at the other end of the huge Eurasian landmass were left in confusion -- a period that reached a climax of sorts in 1945, with the surrender of the Japanese and the inevitable manuveuring among the various contending factions within Indochina for power in the post-war picture.
Back in 1940....some of the French colonials were happy to follow the lead from the new Vichy govt in France (the puppets of the Germans) and so to co-operate with the Japanese. Others had more or less open Gaullist sympathies. One develops some sympathy, in the course of this book, for the Gaullists -- who must have thought, after the liberation of their country in Europe in 1944, that they were entitled to a restoration of the colonial status quo ante as their share of the post-war settlement.
Early in 1945, the Japanese decided the French could no longer be trusted to run Indochina in Japan's interests, and they placed it under the control of their own military. This put the French and the VC in an odd alliance. It was also a very ineffective alliance -- the Japanese remained firmly in control up to the time their god/emperor told them in a radio address the war was over and they must lay down their arms.
In these events, and much more (I can't convey the thoroughness of Marr's account in this review!), one comes to see the future, the next thirty years of it!, as so much inevitable misery, like a wound-up spring destined to uncoil slowly and painfully for all concerned.
So read this book to give yourself the background for any understanding of those 30 years. If you can bear to do so.

Summary of relevent issues in Marrs detailed history.
By dh427@alaska.net / J.D. Harmon
Scholar and Vietnam historian, David G. Marr has created a work of epic scope in his finely tuned account of the year that saw the end of World War II and defined the postwar world. The detailed study of Allied, Japanese, and Vietnamese involvement during the war and in the postwar maneuver for dominance in Vietnam, is essential for the reader who seeks to probe the politics of a cold war struggle that continued to rage for thirty years of land war in Southeast Asia. France was occupied by Nazi Germany in the spring of 1940 while Axis power, Japan, prepared to invade Vietnam in September. With its seaports, airbases, and overland transportation routes, along with its abundant natural resources and rice belts, Vietnam was crucial to Japan's war errort. In Vietnam a French colonial government had ruled its Indochinese Union, exploiting Vietnam's natural resources and manipulating its economy for close to one hundred years. Fearful of losing its colonial possession entirely by force, the French collaborated with Japanese military forces that allowed a functional French colonial administration to sustain the machinations of government in Vietnam from 1942 to 1945. The Office of Strategic Services, the forerunner of the CIA, began covert operations in Vietnam in the spring of 1943, working directly with respected and admired communist-nationalist, Ho Chi Minh. Substantial research, eye-witness analysis, photgraphs, and extensive footnotes support Marr's account of Ho's newly formed Viet Minh forces working with OSS "Deer Team" operatives to achieve Allied war goals and oppose the Japanese war effort. The year 1945 is to Vietnam what 1776 is to the United States; it marks the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam headed by Ho Chi Minh. Ho made it clear to his US friends that his primary aim was not to promote communism but to achieve independence and self-determination for Vietnam. All Americans who knew him personally saw him first as a nationalist and second as a communist. Japan seized power entirely in Vietnam from a French colonial administration 9March1945. Vietnamese leaders saw the ousting of the French as a window of opportunity. By the end of July with Japan on the brink of defeat, members of the Viet Minh, Indochinese Communist Party, and associated nationalists seized history in what was termed the "August Revolution." A tidal wave of revolutionary and nationalist zeal for independence swept the country. On 2September Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in a public address to a nation unified in its desire for independence, quoting from the United States' Declaration of Independence, "these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." Ho concluded his speech with: "Vietnam has the right to enjoy freedom and independence, and in fact has become a free and independent country. The entire Vietnamese people are determined to mobilize all their physical and mental strength, to sacrifice their lives and property, in order to safeguard their freedom and independence." Roosevelt opposed colonial aggression and returning Vietnam to France after the war stating that colonialism was dead. Before Roosevelt could enact US foreign policy regarding Indochina he died. The US State Department had little knowledge of or policy regarding Indochina. France's Provisional President, Charles DeGaulle, stated that if the US did not help France in Indochina, then France might be forced into the Soviet orbit. Only the US had a solvent economy at the close of WWII. The US believing France to be crucial in Europe in opposing Soviet expansionism, fully funded DeGaulle in taking back Vietnam from the Vietnamese. While DeGaulle organized a French Expeditionary Force to land, US ships transported British and Indian troops to seize control. Shipping, arms, uniforms, and provisions were supplied by the US. Contrary to orders from Allied Command, British General Douglas Gracey upon arrival 6September, maintained surrendered yet armed Japanese troops for internal security. Great Britain had her own colonies in Asia to put in order, hence, a vested interest in seeing colonial possessions regained. The newly formed government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was efficiently evicted from office. Eventually a French Expeditionary Force arrived and took over with business as usual, imprisonment and massacre. Mr.Marr's text comes alive with first-hand accounts from participants in the extraordinary arena that was 1945. Marr writes of the summer OSS "Deer Team" met with Ho and the Viet Minh. Ho wanted to chat about the US, its history, political ideals, and US support of free, popular governments throughout the world. Team member, Rene' Defourneaux, from New York recalls Ho's arguing in broken English: "Your statesmen make eloquent speeches about helping those with self-determination. We are self-determined. Why not help us. Am I any different from Nehru, Quezon, even your George Washington? Was not Washington considered a revolutionary? I too want to set my people free." With Ho Chi Minh's apparent affinity for the US, for democratic political ideals, and for American friends in the OSS, along with his desire and hopes for a US alliance and support in achieving Vietnamese independence, Marr makes evident that the US had the future of an emerging self-governing Vietnam in the palm of its hand at the close of WWII. The subsequent French and US involvement in Vietnam remains one of the most misled and tragic affairs of the twentieth century.

Excellent overview of events in 1944-1945
By VG
One of the key eras in modern Vietnamese history, the period from 1944-1945 set the stage for the next thirty years of conflict and bloodshed. It's amazing to see how distracted decision-makers in other countries can so massively influence the fate of millions with barely a second thought. The Vietnamese people themselves were hardly even considered as the Japanese, French and Allies struggled for position in the world-wide drama. A million Vietnamese starve to death in Tonkin? So what? Mountbatten and Wedemeyer are having a tiff over post-war jurisdiction! And de Gaulle has his shorts in a knot over France's image!

It's a great act of research and synthesis, with the usual caveat - underscored by Marr himself - that it can often be difficult to verify sources from within Vietnam. But plumb those Viet sources he did, illustrating all sorts of Viet reactions to events big and small with accounts from local government offices, police reports, petitions, tax rolls, etc. Must have been massively tedious at times, but we're all the better for it.

It seems imperative to me to have a good understanding of this period, as it helps to explain everything that happened between 1954 and 1985. The people who came of age during WWII are the ones who led the country during those 30 years of diplomacy, bloodshed, civil war, proxy war, unification and retribution. The events of WWII opened their eyes and shaped their attitudes for the coming conflicts.

It's almost sad, however, to read how deeply the Vietnamese desired independence from the French, and to see how overjoyed most Vietnamese were by September 2, 1945, and at the same time to know that most of them really had no idea what they were launching into: more than thirty years of conflict, with several million deaths.

One note: there is not a lot information about Hồ Ch Minh or the Việt Minh in this book. It's a wide-ranging book, and there's just as much about the actions, attitudes and strategies of the French, the Japanese, the US, Bảo ại, the Viet provisional war-time government under the Japanese, various Vietnamese nationalist groups, and most of all, about ordinary Vietnamese people, as there is about the Việt Minh as a coherent political group and social movement. To be sure, the Việt Minh are featured more prominently the closer the book gets to mid-August 1945, but the book really covers a much greater field than that.

No idea whether Marr's most recent book is an update of this one. Have to check it out.

Four stars out of five.
