Crackling good Sword & Sorcery...

I like this book! Good characters, some interesting twists on elven races and the relations between them. Good evil characters too! Good battle scenes. Definitely a cut above most S&S novels. I was ready to order the second, but realised it hadn't been written yet. Yet. Please write and release the second! Somewhat predictable by its nature, but well done. I guess GRRM is still the only author with enough guts (or insanity) to kill off his major characters. LOL.
Four stars instead of five for grammatical annoyances. I can almost forgive the erroneous uses of "who" and "whom" -- but NOT personal pronouns in the wrong case when it is so blatantly obvious. "The elf attacked him and I." Aw c'mon! Do you attack "I"? No. You attack HIM ... or ME ... or HER. Sorry, but this is a huge bugaboo of mine. And only in rare cases did either author or editor get it correct.
And a spell-checker still won't catch wrong words if the wrong word is an actual word. "The children were exited at first..." EXCITED, dammit!
Okay, rant over. A good book, good plot, good characters, good villains.
And a really good lead-in for the second book. So ... write it already!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book

Just finished...at work. I won't tell if you don't. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I felt that it was well written and had excellent character development. Normally, with first books, you'll find a lot of proofreading issues. I may have ran across a few at the most. The story was enticing, and I look forward to the next installment.

So worth it!

Great book that kept me pleasently entertained. It hooked me right from the start! Can't wait to learn more about Dain's past and what the future has in store for Jin. I also loved that this book had an ending even though we know there will be a second installment.
